LESSONS AND COURSES

Lessons and Courses

I offer a range of services and I am sure that, together, we can design something that will meet your particular needs.
ONE-OFF LESSONS

You might like a sample lesson to see how well we work together, or you might have a specific issue or piece you are working on that you would like fresh ideas about. A one-off lesson is also a great way to build confidence before a recital or audition. Having sat on auditions panels for so many years in my job as Leader of the BBCCO, I am sure I can help you to prepare for any audition scenario, both technically and psychologically.

REGULAR LESSONS

I was taught technique in a very thorough and disciplined way by Margaret Pardee (assistant to Ivan Galamian at Julliard) at the Meadowmount Summer School in New York State as well as, even more rigorously, by Bela Katona at Trinity College of Music, London. I specialize in working to improve technique and intonation as well as sound production and bow control. We can design a course of regular lessons for you which can be on any time schedule that suits your needs. You can visit me in my home and I also teach over the Skype or Zoom networks. Lessons in London can be arranged. I live near Grantham in Lincolnshire and the fast East Coast line has regular services that take about an hour from London King's Cross.

COURSES

There are times when complete immersion into a subject can bring quicker results. It is possible to design a bespoke course to last between several hours to a couple of days. Private practice time can be a part of this design and food and accommodation can be arranged.

Audition and Orchestral Coaching

I have experienced both sides of this particular area, having done many auditions as a young orchestral hopeful.  In the nearly 25 years that I served as Associate Leader and then Leader of the BBCCO, I have witnessed both the struggles and the successes that people have when they audition for a job in an orchestra.  Allow my experience to help give you an edge in your own audition process.

MENTORING

I have experience in helping individuals to work through industry related issues in total confidence in a one to one scenario. Sometimes, just having someone with experience to listen to a problem can help you to find a way forward. Again, I offer this service in my Lincolnshire home, in London or via Skype, What's App, etc.
